Guadalajara guide: Tlaquepaque restaurants, shops, tequila
Tlaquepaque is a Pueblo Mágico about 20 minutes from the city center of Guadalajara. It is vibrant in every sense of the word.
The center of town is Parian de Tlaquepaque. It's a large canteen with serval restaurants and bars on the outskirts. Mariachis will approach your table to ask to play some songs. Make sure you have some pesos on hand!
Beyond the plaza are cobblestone streets with some of the best arts and craft stores I have experienced in Mexico. The stores have high quality artesinas and a great selection.
There are no shortage of traditional Mexican restaurants along these streets. I recommend El Patio, Casa Luna or Casa Fuerte. They all have extensive food selections, tequila menus and solid margaritas.
Tlaquepaque is also the place to shop for tequila if your looking for a one-off or if you don't plan to make the journey to the town of Tequila. You can taste-test most of the tequilas available for sale, so make sure you don't go on an empty stomach!
The places to hit in Tlaquepaque are Nuestros Dulces & El Buho. These two have, by far, the most extensive range. Casa Confradia also has a selection of in-house tequilas that are worth a taste test!
Centro Histórico is full of history, architectually significant buildings and landmarks.
On most days, the line to get into this place is down the block!
Tlaquepaque is a Pueblo Magico about 20 minutes from the city center of Guadalajara.
The menu ranges from traditional items like Aztec Soup (tortilla soup) to more modern items like tiradito a'tun (tuna sashimi).
It's a good spot to hit for a coffee and a light breakfast without the weekend crowds.
This glass house cafe is hidden in the courtyard of an old colonial building.
When I travel to a new city or town, the first place I hit is the central market.
You'll be surrounded by hipsters, but it's worth it.
Bruna is an upscale, modern Mexican restaurant in an architectural wonderland.
