Centro Histórico is full of history, architectually significant buildings and landmarks.

None of which is more significant than the Guadalajara Cathedral, built in the mid 1500s. It's prominent and stunning, and it sits on Plaza de Armas, a beautifully landscaped city plaza.

The regional museum of Guadalajara is a few blocks from the cathedral and on the way you'll see many beautiful municipal buildings that hold historic significance. Take a few hours and walk through the many plazas: Founders, Plaza Guadalajara and Tapatia Plaza are good ones to check out.

Also, be sure to see Teatro Degollado, a neoclassical Mexican theater known for its diverse performances and artistic design.

The Plaza de los Mariachis is in Centro Histórico, close to the Mercado San Juan de Dios. This was the first place where mariachi music was played and, until recently, a place where mariachis would come and play for visitors everyday. Locals say that most mariachis have moved to Tlaquepaque to play.
